Staff notation reading, Guitar (HND)

By | August 15, 2014

three things we need to understand for reading staff notation..

(i) Identify (characters) notes                                                                                                           (ii) time value of notes                                                                                                                       (iii) timing of melody line

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(i) Identify (characters) notes.

(i) staff notation are written with help of 5 lines are called staff lines, and note is represented as music character shown over it. 5 lines create 4 gap, notes are indicated over it. (every note of guitar have special/ fix place over guitar, hope you know notes of guitar fret-board, if need help, look note identification of guitar of lesson-1)

(ii)  if music character written over 1st line its note ‘e’ , on 2nd line ‘g’, on 3rd line ‘b’, 4th line ‘d’, 5th line ‘f’. ( Every Good Boy Does Fine, are these 5 lines)

(iii) If note is written between 1st and 2nd line means 1st gap its ‘f’, 2nd gap ‘a’, 3rd gap ‘c’.                                                                                                                                                                      (iv) Now all together notes are written over lines and between lines, so that would be E, F, G, A, B, C, D, E, F.

(v) Notes are written below and above these 5 lines by help of laser lines.( small lines indicating line and gap, look indication of 6TH ‘E’ string.)

** We’ll keep learning staff also called sheet music throughout our course.

(ii) Time value of notes: Now let us look value of notes. Remember shapes of whole note, half note, quarter note, eighth note, and sixteenth note.
